Your Career is Yours to Manage

Transforming the World of Management

Many courses and books are available for managers to access and take advantage of. But most of them barely allocate a conversation or a chapter to navigating race, identity, and power dynamics—if that!

Transforming the World of Management (TWM) centers its program on race, gender, class, and the intersectionality of identities while providing strategies to lead and manage in a meaningful way that aligns with what is important to YOU. This program calls out and acknowledges all the ways that white supremacy and capitalism are prevalent in the world of management and how it perpetually harms BIWOC and gender expansive communities.

It centers you as a whole person doing the work, not only the work itself.

Week 1 — Management + Leadership

Can we stop calling everyone in management a leader? They are not interchangeable! We will dive into the difference between both and you will begin to explore and understand what you want your management style to be, and more importantly, who you want to be as a leader.

Week 2 — Managing Self + Your Team

When you were an independent contributor on a team you found your groove in managing your workload. But what happens when you are now having to manage your projects, the team, multiple stakeholders, competing deadlines, interpersonal issues, upper management requests, and so much more? Work longer hours? Nope! Here we believe in actual work-life balance. We’ll go over tools, tactics, and strategies that will support your overall management approach.

Week 3 — Project + Budget Management

Does the mere mention of project and budgeting management make your eyes gloss over? Or are you part of the minority who love spreadsheets, formulas, and pivot tables? Either way, this week we will break down and make project and budget management easy to digest and adopt. We will focus on how to leverage them to make your workflow easier. They are meant to be tools to support you in making decisions and provide you with an overall snapshot of where the team is when managing all the resources you are responsible for.

Week 4 — HR + Operations

There are basics of human resources (HR) and operations that are part of being in management. Understanding these will help you better manage your team when issues and challenges arise. As a manager, there are labor laws, policies, and procedures you must be familiar with to ensure your organization meets compliance standards.

Week 5 — Cultivating Your Influence

Your unique perspective and lived experiences are needed to transform and evolve the current status quo of management and leadership. We’ll discuss the importance of cultivating your influence and how to interrupt and break cycles of perpetual harm to BIWOC + gender expansive professionals.

YOU are not the job. You are WHAT you bring to it.
